Brian Baker in Nice : Survivor & Tennis Spirit !
Last day of a humid Open de Nice Côte d'Azur, my third. It's been a few years that I am working on the ATP tour between Marseille, Nice and Paris. I have experienced rare moments in Marseille with Federer, Nadal, Jo Tsonga, Clément in 06, in Paris last year and the legendary match between Federer and Djokovic, Gasquet finale in Nice versus Verdasco for the very first edition. But this week, I have officially become a fan of Brian Baker. As of his first match in the qualies and the suprise to see CN following the guy, and then finding out about his story of past US hopeful, all his injuries, surgeries, his life as a
coach at Belmont University for the Bruins in Tenessee... this guy is a survivor! He is tennis. He plays without a coach, without a team around him. He is hurting all over but on the court he is amazing. His game is awesome to watch because it is clever. It is a pure style on this beautiful court in the "Parc Imperial". Almagro is impressive, Brian Baker gives you goose bumps. Every young kid should watch this guy use his humble attitude and courage. Maybe his body won't make it, maybe not but what a ride!
Brian : you da man!
